Abstract

Fungal infections are regarded as a nuisance to health, but they are increasingly a global health concern. In recent years, there has been a sharp rise in invasive drug-resistant fungal disease, affecting immunocompromised patients and healthy individuals. An increased use of antifungal agents, climate change, and growing populations of medically vulnerable patients, are contributing factors to the situation. Species such as Candida auris, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Cryptococcus neoformans, are now menacing hospitals and communities throughout the world. This article explores the rise of fungal infections, the fungal pathogens responsible for it, the challenges of diagnosing and treating these infections, how individuals and institutions can minimize risks, and an urgent call to action for global health to improve surveillance, new therapeutics, and public awareness.

Key words : Fungal infection, antifungal resistance, Candida species, Aspergillus species, Cryptococcus Species
