How English Impacts Collaboration with International Research Communities?
➕ About Author
Abstract
English has become the dominant language of global scientific communication, significantly shaping how researchers collaborate, share knowledge and participate in international scholarly networks. This paper examines the multifaceted influence of English on global research collaboration, including its role as a lingua franca, its impact on publishing practices, conference participation, interdisciplinary cooperation and access to international funding bodies. It also highlights the challenges faced by non native English speaking researchers, such as linguistic inequalities, publication bias and barriers to academic mobility. While English undeniably strengthens global scholarly connectivity, the paper argues that sustainable academic progress requires greater linguistic inclusivity, multilingual support mechanisms and equitable policies that ensure fair participation for scholars worldwide.
