Abstract
Ashwagandha has gained attention as a potential nutraceutical for supporting
gastrointestinal health. This review examines its botanical profile, bioactive
compounds and mechanisms tied to digestive function, including anti-inflammatory,
antioxidant and immunomodulatory actions. Evidence from preclinical studies
suggests benefits in ulcer protection, intestinal inflammation and motility
regulation. Early clinical findings point to improvements in stress-related
digestive symptoms and overall comfort, with a generally favorable safety profile.
Despite promising results, research is limited by inconsistent extract quality
and a lack of long-term clinical trials. Standardized formulations and targeted
studies are needed to confirm Ashwagandhaβs therapeutic role in gastrointestinal care.
